Selecting a superintendent of schools is one of the most important functions of a local board of education. The Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) search service was formed to support ongoing efforts to provide local boards of education with the resources needed to effectively and productively govern their districts. GSBA is uniquely qualified to assist school districts in conducting a highly specialized, well-organized search, matching districts with exceptional candidates for consideration.

The Georgia School Boards Association superintendent search process is designed to allow each Board to individualize the search process for its next superintendent around a framework of leadership competencies that reflect the best practices in educational leadership. The GSBA Superintendent Competency Framework includes 14 indicators. The first two (2) indicators address preparation for becoming the School District’s next superintendent. The next twelve (12) indicators are aligned with the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL), a set of nationally recognized criteria that outline what education leaders should know and be able to do. These standards outline foundational principles of education leadership that cut across all grade
