Remembering 9/11: Patriot Day

Writer's picture: BCSDBCSD

September 11, 2001, was a tragic day in American history. On that day, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost due to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Virginia and the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania. Today, the Baldwin County School District takes time to remember the heroes of a fateful day 21 years ago that changed our country forever. Most of us remember exactly where we were when we heard the news that day. As we remember the lives that were lost, we also honor the lives of those individuals who exhibited bravery during the attacks. In the blink of an eye, ordinary people reacted instantaneously to this tragedy and became extraordinary heroes. They taught us all about the true meaning of strength and tenacity of the human spirit. Americans from all backgrounds and all walks of life responded with courage and compassion. Today, as we think back on 9/11, we ask that you take a moment to honor the memory of the men and women who sacrificed their lives, and the countless others still affected by these horrific attacks against our nation. We will never forget.
