Milledgeville Chamber of Commerce Holds "Reality Check" Event at Georgia College Early College

As a high school or college student, it can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of school work and extracurricular activities. But eventually, the time will come for all of us to enter the workforce and start building our careers. That's where the Milledgeville Chamber of Commerce's "Reality Check" event comes in.

Held annually at the Peabody Auditorium for the Georgia College Early College Program as well as other high schools in Baldwin, "Reality Check" is an interactive event where the goal is to give students a taste of what it's like to be an adult trying to make ends meet in the real world.

At "Reality Check," students are given a life scenario that places them in the role of a 26-year-old who has to get a job, often to provide for a family. Volunteers work at stations around the Peabody Auditorium representing different jobs, such as rent, city management offices, bill collection, grocery stores, and more.

As students move through the stations, they are faced with the challenges and decisions that come with being an adult. They have to balance their budget, pay bills, and make choices about where to allocate their limited resources. It's a great way for students to get a sense of what it's like to be an adult and how to manage their finances.

In addition to the interactive stations, "Reality Check" also features guests from a variety of industries who volunteer to work the stations and answer questions about those industries. These professionals share their experiences and advice with the students, giving them a glimpse into what it takes to succeed in the workforce.

Overall, "Reality Check" is a valuable and educational experience for high school and college students. It helps them gain a better understanding of what it takes to be successful in the real world and gives them the tools they need to make informed decisions about their future. If you're a student in the Milledgeville area, be sure to check out "Reality Check" the next time it's held and see what it's all about!
