Michelle O'Gorman Maurer Appointed as Director of Special Education


Congratulations to Michelle O'Gorman Maurer who was appointed Director of Special by the Board of Education at its July 2, 2024, meeting. Her professional career spans 15 years of experience in education and leadership. During this time, she has served as a general education teacher, special education teacher, coach, athletic director, academic specialist, and district instructional coach.


For the past seven years, Mrs. O'Gorman Maurer has been employed by the Bibb County School District as a special education coordinator. In this role, she actively supported students with disabilities, led a diverse team of support staff, and developed processes to enhance the effectiveness and improve student outcomes.

 

Mrs. O'Gorman Maurer holds a bachelor's degree in early childhood special education from Macon State College, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Georgia Southwestern State University, and an educational specialist degree in teacher leadership from Valdosta State University.

 

Mrs. O'Gorman Maurer grew up in a military family. She was born overseas in England and has lived in multiple states. She is married to Blake Maurer, and they have a three-year-old son, Matthew. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys running 5ks, traveling, and spending time with her family.


Mrs. O'Gorman Maurer is committed to the long-term success of all students and is excited to join the Baldwin County School District.
