Lakeview Academy Ambassadors Shine at Georgia College

The Baldwin County School District has a lot to be proud of, particularly when it comes to its Lakeview Academy Ambassadors. This group of fifth graders serves as role models for the school, setting an example for their peers and demonstrating excellent leadership skills. Recently, they had the opportunity to participate in an event organized by Georgia College & State University staff that included interactive games and activities designed to teach important lessons about leadership, working together, thinking about others, and stepping outside of one's own bubble.

Mr. Joel Respess, Lakeview Academy Art Teacher who began the Ambassadors Program last year, expressed his gratitude for the event and the relationship with Georgia College, saying, "The purpose was for our students to have an experience off campus to learn from some adults, other than the ones they see every day, to hear different perspectives, see some fresh faces, learn some different points of view and pick up some new skills about service and leadership."

He also shared more about the Lakeview Academy Ambassador program, saying, "We're in our second year, and it's just for fifth graders. Those are the oldest kids in our building. There's no application process. Our students have to do several things. They have to make it easy for their teachers to teach, and easy for their classmates to learn. But they also have to want to set a good example and be seen as role models in the building. They have to be willing to be held to a higher standard."

Overall, the Baldwin County School District is grateful for the relationship they have with Georgia College & State University and proud of their Lakeview Academy Ambassadors. These fifth graders demonstrate exceptional leadership and serve as excellent role models for their peers. The school district is committed to providing its students with a wide range of learning opportunities, both in and outside of the classroom, to help them develop into well-rounded individuals who are equipped to make a positive impact in their communities.
