The Georgia Power Foundation made a generous donation of $2,000 dollars to the BHS Career Technical Instruction (CTI) Program this month. The Georgia Power Foundation allows for specific programs to apply for funding aid for projects that benefit the community and help those experiencing barriers to their academic success.
BHS Career Technical Instruction Coordinator Christina Rogers has used the funding in the past to help her students attend leadership conferences and travel to work sites that have been instrumental in their development. "Some of my students don't have the funding," Rogers said, "so this has been a great benefit in allowing me to take them without asking for additional funding from their parents.”
Georgia Power Foundation Area Manager Greg Tyson was on hand to deliver the check, which was formally received by Ms. Rogers, BHS Principal Jason Flanders, and BCSD Superintendent Dr. Noris Price.
This is the second time Georgia Power Foundation had selected the Baldwin High School CTI Program for an award. Rogers says she looks forward to using the funding to help her students to attend conferences and competition in the Fall and the Spring of 2022 and 2023. Since CTI is only a state-wide program, rather than a national program, it relies solely on state funding, local businesses, and donors for all additional funding for the students that it serves.
The funding from organizations like Georgia Power Foundation is essential for allowing students from any economic background or any disability pursue their dreams. "Students in the NJROTC may want to do a job in the military or perhaps something in community service," Rogers said, "We have welding here! We have so many programs here at Baldwin High School that they can do their projects within that, or go into leadership training."
Thank you so much to the Georgia Power Foundation for helping to make our students' dreams come true.
