Congratulations to Gina Whitaker, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, for being selected as this week’s BOE Employee of the Week.
Mrs. Whitaker is truly an outdoor lover. Some of her favorite hobbies are landscaping, landscape design and propagating plants. She is a big fan of Audrey Hepburn and enjoys all of her movies, especially “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
She has 6 siblings, two of whom are deceased. Although she was raised in a large family, it did not stop each one of them from learning the value of a close knit family and doing for others.
“Surprisingly, as a family of nine, we grew up in a loving and close home environment full of musical enrichment. As teenagers, we cared for our neighborhood seniors by cleaning houses, cutting grass, and running local errands. We were well-known in our neighborhood as the "Sweet Seven from Heaven." I planted seven thriving olive tea plants to bring love/family into my yard because seven is my favorite number.”
Mrs. Whitaker has been married for 32 years. She and her husband have one son and a wonderful daughter-in-law.
She is a native of South Carolina, famous for Charleston's Historic District, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head Island, Fort Sumter Military Base, South Carolina State Museum, the Riverbanks Zoo, and the Columbia River. Her passion for education led her to Milledgeville.
“I am passionate about education and helping students be successful and the individuals that I serve. I moved to Milledgeville, Georgia, three years ago, to follow my heart's desire to make a difference by returning to the school system.”
Mrs. Whitaker has worked for the Baldwin County Board of Education for 4 years in July. She is a graduate of The University of Montevallo with a Bachelor of Science and a Minor in Social Work. She also has a Master of Science Education from Walden University.
Mrs. Whitaker is also a cancer survivor and takes each day as a blessing.
“I am a cancer survivor, so each day is a reminder of how fortunate I am to be in this role and for the many opportunities this role has afforded me along the way.”
When asked to describe herself she simply said “Who am I? I’m thankful, humble, and zestfully me.”
Thank you Mrs. Whitaker for all that you do for this school district!
