BCSD Celebrates School Lunch Week

Writer: EricJonesEricJones

The National School Lunch Program, which serves nearly 30 million children each day, celebrated National School Lunch Week during Baldwin County's Fall Break. We have elected to recognize our school nutrition employees the week of October 17th through the 21st.

The fun and creative campaign theme, “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week highlights the nutritious foods available daily at Baldwin County schools. Baldwin County's Nutrition Department received the Golden Radish award for its stellar performance in the food education of its students, and has received the award every year that it has been offered, often at the platinum level.

Please find a way to demonstrate your support for our school nutrition employees this week. Have your students write a letter, make a card, or write one yourself. Sincere appreciation for one's hard work and diligence can make all the difference in the day of a school nutrition employee.

We love our school nutrition staff!

Baldwin County School Nutrition Director Susan Nelson accepts the Golden Radish Award for 2022

The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 75 years. For 2022, for the third year in a row, students in Baldwin County have been able to enjoy free meals, and with recent innovations at the County's gardens, including grant and donor funding for expansion and new aquaponic systems, students and their families have had access to fresh grown vegetables and fruits.
