The third full week of October is National School Bus Driver Appreciation and School Bus Safety Week, a time when students, teachers, support staff, parents, and community members come together to promote the hard-working and invaluable role that bus drivers play within the school system.
During the Covid-19 Shutdown, when the BCSD buses weren't picking and dropping off students, our drivers were still active, using the buses as mobile wifi hotspots to service underprivileged areas that weren't covered on Georgia's bandwidth maps. It was our District's bus drivers who made it possible for many students to work remotely. In addition, our bus drivers deliver thousands of meals to the children in our community every Summer.
Please find a way to demonstrate your support for our bus drivers this week. Have your students write a letter, make a card, or write one yourself. Sincere appreciation for one's hard work and diligence can make all the difference in the day of a bus driver.
Nationwide, more than 25 million children ride the bus to and from school daily. These children are wholly entrusted to the safety of our nation's bus route networks and often without regard for the technical skill and social work performed by those who operate the machinery.
Baldwin County School District loves its bus drivers!
