Baldwin School District Adds Iced Coffee Bar

Baldwin County School District's Nutrition Department is offering a new item with breakfast at the high school this year. Through a grant, the school nutrition department has been able to provide two Iced Coffee Bars to high school students.

One is set up in the cafe, and the other is located near the gym. The Iced Coffee contains 2 oz of coffee and 8 oz of low-fat milk. They offer several Sugar-Free Flavored Syrups so that the students may customize their beverage. Along with the drink, students are offered 100% fruit juice, fresh fruit, and a whole grain item (varies daily), making this a reimbursable breakfast. Students also have the option of a hot breakfast in the cafe serving lines.

The Healthy Meal Incentive Grant has allowed nutrition services to hire a part-time employee to assist with the coffee bar and help promote breakfast participation at our high school.

"School Nutrition tries to keep up with the latest food trends to pull our customers in, plus sneak in some much-needed morning nutrition. We hope this addition will help to increase breakfast participation at the high school," stated Director of School Nutrition, Susan Nelson.
