The Milledgeville Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual STAR Student Banquet, an event that celebrates the brightest academic achievers in Baldwin County. This year, Jessica Biyogmam earned the distinguished title of Baldwin High School STAR Student, an honor awarded to the senior with the highest SAT score in their school who also ranks in the top 10% of their class. Jessica selected Michael Womack as her STAR Teacher, recognizing his significant impact on her academic success.

Jessica highlighted how Mr. Womack’s lessons extended beyond the classroom, preparing students for future academic challenges, “When I started dual enrollment and took a psychology class, there were so many concepts I already knew from Mr. Womack’s class because he taught us how to apply them in our writing.”

Womack's dedication and encouragement were pivotal to her education, Jessica said, noting that he has always been willing to help his students—whether by proofreading essays, writing letters of recommendation, or simply offering support and humor. As she looks ahead to her future, Jessica has set her sights on making a difference in the medical field. “After graduation, I will be attending the University of Georgia to major in Biology with the goal of becoming an Interventional Cardiologist. I want to address healthcare disparities within small towns and marginalized countries by opening small clinics.”

The STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program, established to honor students and the educators who inspire them, fosters a strong connection between schools and the broader business-civic community. By recognizing academic excellence, the program highlights the role of mentorship in student success while reinforcing the importance of education in shaping future professionals.

Each year, high school STAR Students across Georgia are recognized by over 170 civic organizations and businesses, which serve as local sponsors for the initiative. This support underscores the value of educational achievement and the vital partnership between schools and the community.

We applaud Baldwin High School STAR Student Jessica Biyogmam and Star Teacher Michael Womack, for their remarkable accomplishments. Their dedication and hard work exemplify the spirit of the STAR program, and we wish them continued success.
