Today, the Baldwin County School District (BCSD) announced a four-year graduation rate of 83.6% for the 2023-2024 school year and a five-year graduation rate of 89.8%. The Baldwin County School District has seen its graduation rate increase from 66% in 2014 to 83.6% in 2024, an increase of 17 percentage points.
The school district acknowledges that this year’s four-year graduation rate is a 5.6 percentage point drop from last year’s. Graduation rates are affected by many factors. Some students need an additional year to complete their high school coursework, and their graduation is calculated into the 5-year graduation rate. Students who decide to get a General Educational Diploma (GED) are not counted in the graduation rate by the Georgia Department of Education.
The BCSD is undertaking a comprehensive evaluation of the ongoing challenges that students face daily. We are collaborating with staff, parents, and community leaders to develop a plan that includes increased academic support, counseling services, and enhanced career readiness programs to help more students reach the goal of graduating from high school.
The district provides students with targeted tutoring and academic support programs, expanded credit recovery opportunities, and robust wraparound services. The Wraparound services team offers increased counseling and mentoring services that assist students with overcoming non-academic barriers. The school district also provides students with many options to pursue studies that align with their interests and skill sets through workforce readiness and career-focused programs.
The Baldwin County School District continues to keep student success at the forefront of its planning. With student achievement as a high priority, the district is working with students in the Class of 2025 to ensure they are on track to graduate. “Our teachers, support staff, and administrators work closely with students to ensure they meet the state’s graduation requirements and have a plan for the next step in their journey,” stated Superintendent Dr. Noris Price. “We remain fully committed to providing the best possible educational experience for every student in our district.
How Georgia calculates its graduation rate
Each year, Georgia calculates a four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate as federal law requires. This rate is the number of students who graduate in four years with a regular high school diploma, divided by the number of students who form the adjusted cohort for the graduating class. The four-year adjusted cohort includes students who enter ninth grade at the beginning of the school year and adds or subtracts any students who transfer in or out over the next three years.
